For the past several weeks, the Cheshire Rail Trail Phase III Loop Project has been underway. This project will improve the trail from Hurricane road to Ami Brown road. Ami Brown road will also be improved and officially added to the Keene trail system.
Additional work that will be completed includes a new trail head on Whitcombs Mill road and another at the intersection of Summit road and Summit Ridge drive. Also, small section of multi use path will be added alongside Summit road from the trail head to the YMCA.
The trail head at Whitcombs Mill road should be paved in the next couple weeks. The trail head on Summit road will be gravel.
The project should be completed by the end of July and both the rail trail right of way and Ami Brown road will be surfaced with stone dust.
In the above picture taken at Hurricane road, it appears that the construction unearthed a section of rail from the rail bed. After many years of planning, it is great to see this project in motion and we can’t wait for the trail to be open again!
