Hey rail trail fans. If you are not aware, a section of the Cheshire Rail Trail-South from Rockwood Pond Rd, Fitzwilliam, going north to the superfund access road, in Troy was recently restored to a condition usable for walkers, bikers, equestrians, and snowmobilers. Although the Sno-Moles maintain the trail for snowmobiling, this section of the trail has not been conducive for walkers, bikers, and equestrians for many years and was washed out in 2021. The trail has now been mowed, encroaching trees removed, drainage ditches and culverts cleared, and a new surface applied. The project was a collaborative effort involving Cheshire County, the Monadnock Region Rail Trail Collaborative, and Lukeman Excavation LLC. Many thanks to the Timken Foundation and the Mascoma Bank Foundation for providing the funding. A great place to access this section of the rail trail is Rockwood Pond in Fitzwilliam, NH. Thanks to all involved. Another piece of the Monadnock region rail trails is completed with more being worked on.
